Local Places to Visit
Below you will find many local interesting and beautiful places to visit in the area:
Skelligs Rock
The Skellig Rocks are of such an importance that they have been made a World Heritage Site. The archaeology, the amazing sea and wild life and the wide open timeless scenery of Skellig is a must for any visitor to Ireland. When you first see The Skelligs you wonder how or why anyone would live on such a remote rock in the middle of The Atlantic Ocean, when you visit and stand on the site of the monastery and Experience the Skelligs then you begin to understand. Rest and refresh your soul from the busy world and absorb "the magic that takes you out far out of this time and this world.
George Bernard Shaw the famous Irish dramatist and winner of the Noble prize for Literature was so taken by his visit to the Skelligs in 1910 that he wrote:
"But for the magic that takes you out far out of this time and this world, there is Skellig Michel ten miles off the Kerry coast, shooting straight up seven hundred feet sheer out of the Atlantic. Whoever has not stood in the grave-yard on the summit of that cliff among the beehive dwellings and beehive oratory does not know Ireland through and through".
If you wish to avail of a trip to the Skelligs Rock, a boat leaves from the Béal Trá harbour, which is 5 minutes walk from Morans B & B. We would be happy to make a booking for you. It takes 1.5 hours to reach the rock.
